Saint
Clare's Community Outreach
As
part of Saint Clare's mission to provide affordable healthcare regardless
of ability to pay, Sister Catherine's Community Health Center, located
at Saint
Clare’s Hospital/Dover General, is a beacon of hope
to thousands of unemployed, working poor, and non-English speaking
residents searching for quality medical care. Many members of the
Center's staff, including physicians and nurses, are bilingual. During
the course of a year, the Center sees more than 13,000 children and
adults who depend on charity care for their healthcare. Saint Clare’s
continues to rank among New Jersey’s top contributors to charity
care.
The Homeless Outreach Program, the winner of the 2004 Health
Research and Educational Trust (HRET) Award for Community Outreach,
from the
New Jersey Hospital Association, is an integral part of our core
mission to serve the healthcare needs of the underserved. As part
of the program, our Mobile Health Van literally goes "into the
streets" to provide basic healthcare to the homeless, uninsured
and day laborers. Since its inception in 2000, the "homeless
health van" has had more than 3,100 client contacts with more
than 900 individuals. Community support is needed to provide medical
supplies and ongoing support for program operations.
