33rd Johnny Rizzo Golf Outing Raises $36,000 to Benefit Saint Clare’s Hospital/Sussex

The Saint Clare’s Foundation’s 33rd Annual Johnny Rizzo Golf Outing, an event benefiting Saint Clare’s Hospital/Sussex, netted $36,000 this year, the highest amount raised since 2006.

The June 16 event was held at the Sky View Country Club in Sparta, NJ and was sponsored by Nielsen Automotive Group. Proceeds from the event raised vital funds to support continued upgrades, enhancements and renovations to Saint Clare’s Hospital/Sussex, ensuring that the community continues to have access to the most modern and vital healthcare programs and services available.

In addition to raising needed funds, the Rizzo Golf Outing is a great day of golf, contests, and prize raffles. Awards for men’s and women’s low gross and low net, longest drive, closest to the pin and a putting contest were given out. Hole-in-one prizes included a 2011 Hyundai Genesis, sponsored by Franklin-Sussex Hyundai, and a 2010 Jeep Wrangler, sponsored by Franklin Sussex Auto Mall. The outing also had media coverage from Clear Channel and Comcast Spotlight.

Though it was forecasted to pour, the rain held off for an exciting day of golfing. A new 50/50 raffle gave the winner $1,500 to take home. One hundred other prizes were also raffled off with almost everyone going home with something.

After the dinner, the 1st Annual Jack Rizzo Leadership Award was presented and given to Jack Rizzo, father of Johnny Rizzo who passed away thirty three years ago. This award recognizes those in the community that have given their all to making the lives of their family, friends, and neighbors better.

Saint Clare’s Hospital/Sussex offers a modern Emergency Department, staffed by board-certified physicians and specially trained nurses, as well as same day surgery, cardiac rehabilitation, critical and intensive care, behavioral health services and cancer screenings. The hospital has also added many beneficial services to the residents of Sussex County in the last year, including digital mammography, the gold-standard in breast imaging; a bone density scanner to help diagnose osteoporosis; and a 16-slice CT scanner, allowing doctors to more easily diagnose illness and injury. Additionally, a satellite of Saint Clare’s Dover-based Women’s Health Center will be added in the coming year.
